Every night, I look forward to sitting down and watching my television shows. I love my tv shows. The list is long, but each show appeals to me for different reasons. But in the end, the shows are riveting, heart wrenching, action and surprise filled, and full of good humor. The more I watch these shows, the more I realize how fun it would be to be involved in the world of tv and film.
I would love to go into a film program in college, so that I can learn the ins and outs of how tv works. I want to learn to write for tv to start. I've written a script before, but I would like to have more professional training on it. I want to be able to edit film and video. I've never tried it before, but I watch music videos and I love the editing people can do. I would love to be able to manipulate video like that, to create beautiful visual effects. I'd also like to learn how to be a director, and everything that comes with the job. I like being in control of my creations, and I love watching them come to life in my own way.
If it weren't for all my television show watching, I'd never have gotten so engrossed in the world. I love television and film. My favorite shows would have to be Sherlock and Doctor Who, and the visual effects for each one are incredible. It'd be a dream come true to work on either one of the shows. Ideally though, I'd like to create my own tv show from scratch. One that is unique, and different from the rest of the tv shows out there right now.
I think one of those aha! moments started when I was watching the show Castle. On this episode, Detective Beckett was investigating a case tied to her mom and her mom’s death. Something had happened that day, she thought she’d seen a sniper, and it had freaked her out, so in the middle of the night she was having a panic attack. The scene of her having the panic attack was about two minutes long. The way that scene was edited was incredible. It really brought out what Beckett was feeling to the viewers. To me it was purely brilliant. Seeing that scene made me realize I really wanted to learn how to do that.
Since then, when I watch tv shows I’ve started noticing cinematography more, and I’ve began to appreciate it more. I’ve been looking for editing programs and looking up tutorials on how to do some basic editing. I’d like to start with music videos, making my own, and eventually work with tv shows and even movies. Special effects and cinematography are critical to making any film, show or video great.
In addition, writing has always been a passion of mine, and I’d love to write my own show, and watch it evolve over the years into a show people learn to love and admire. We connect with tv shows in a different way than we do other things; it becomes part of our daily life to watch our favorite characters evolve on the screen. We live and breathe the character’s life. We cry, laugh, love and hate with them, we daydream about living in their world. Viewers embrace everything about the shows they love, and that’s something I would love to be a part of.
